Mei Zhang
Dr. Mei Zhang received her B.S. in Physics from Nanjing University ( China) and Ph. D. in Engineering from Osaka Prefecture University ( Japan). She worked in different fields: semiconductor materials, plasmas, plasma CVD, thin films, and optical components, etc.
Dr. Mei Zhang joined UTD NanoTech Institute in 2003. She worked on synthesis of carbon nanotubes (CNT) using thermal CVD and successfully discovered the ways to spin CNT yarns and draw CNT sheets from the CNT forests.
Her research interests are
- Physical properties of nano-scale materials
- Fabrication of novel nano-scale structures and devices
- Applications of nano-scale materials in biomedical, functional composites, etc.

- Synthesis of nano-scale materials
- Exploring carbon nanotube sheet forming and yarn spinning mechanism
- Process and equipment development for continuously drawing nanotube sheet and spinning nanotube yarn
- Fabrication of nanotube sheet- and yarn-based novel functional structures
- Building of nanotube sheet- and yarn-based devices for biomedical applications
- Developing nanotube sheet- and yarn-based functional composites
